Education Specialist/Manager

The Manager of Education at East TN PBS strategically plans and directs PK-12 educator professional development and engagement activities that drive awareness, use public media educational resources, and develop curriculum that serves our community's needs. Responsible for a portfolio that embraces PBS KIDS, PBS Education resources, Media Literacy, and a network of educators and education partners to serve our community's educational needs. The person in this position understands and can apply trends in PK-12 curriculum, instruction using digital media and will work closely with other departments within the station and within the community to establish, and maintain strategic, collaborative partnerships to support the impact, growth, and execution of programs. This individual will demonstrate commitment and support for learning and growth in educational equity, cultural relevance, diversity, and inclusion. 

DEGREE AND REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Bachelor's degree required. PK-12 Education program preferred
  • Experience with digital education platforms and relevant software
  • At least two years of experience in formal or informal PK-12 education

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Familiarity or experience with public media education content
  • Experience facilitating online/virtual learning training or events for educators or PK-12 students
  • Direct experience with STEM/STEAM curriculum, particularly math
  • Experience and success in sourcing and grant writing and securing program funding
  • Fluency in a language other than English a plus

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

  1. Directs long-range and short-term strategic plans and initiatives to further the growth of the East TN PBS education programs
  2. Develops organizational and operational policies and procedures and monitors performance to ensure alignment with strategic objectives
  3. Serves as the department liaison to internal and external stakeholder groups providing organizational information and representing the interests of East TN PBS
  4. Assists with developing and monitoring budgets and grant management
  5. Identify and participate in relevant programs from around the Public Broadcast System and other resources
  6. Leads the planning and development of East Tn PBS educational content, providing a voice for national and state standards, current classroom practices, educator and student needs, as well as educational system priorities and trends
  7. Directs and oversees presentations, facilitation of workshops, and design of professional development experiences in-person and virtually, ensuring excellent written and oral communications and presentation skills
  8. Ability to identify needs, execute on a project, work independently with minimal supervision or direction
